|Kiam Moriya will turn 12 on December 12, 2012 at 12:12pm (his exact birth time)|
Though thousands of other soon-to-be 12-year-olds will mark the milestone this week, Kiam Moriya has the distinction of the freakish coincidence that he was born at a time that also is filled with 12s.
The parents of the sixth grader say they will come to his school this coming Wednesday in the middle of the day so as a family they can celebrate together.
'Most of them didn't believe me,' Kiam told AL.com about the reaction from his friends, when he told them of his 12-filled birthday. But to the skeptics, he showed off his birth certificate from New York state to verify that his claim was correct.
The boy was actually born seven or eight weeks early in 2000.
'Just all of a sudden her water broke. Doctors couldn't tell us exactly why she had him so early,' the boy's father, Kazua Moriya, told the paper.
The boy weighed in at 4 pounds, 10 ounces and spent about 10 days in an incubator - so no 12s were in the combination.
The sixth grader said he has been looking forward to this coming Wednesday for a long time - 'ever since I've had my memory [of knowing of his unique birth date.] 'It's like one minute out of a whole lifetime,' Kiam said, 'You know, it's all 12s.'
The Alabama boy said he won't be getting a cake this year, he has requested instead to have Krispy Kreme donuts lined up in the shape of a 12.
'Donuts are awesome,' Kiam said. 'When I'm turning 12, it's going to be nothing but 12s,' he said. The boy's father, who was born in Tokyo, works at HTNA, an automotive manufacturing supplier in Jasper and also serves as a Presbyterian minister.
The father noted the religious importance of the 12s. He said in the Bible the number 12 is significant since in the Old Testament because there were 12 tribes of Israel.
In New Testament times, there were 12 disciples of Jesus. The father also said 12 is a significant number in Japanese culture.
